K2 Siren of the Himalayas

A labor of love, I spent nearly 7 years creating this film. It was born from my interest in the work of the Italian photographer Vittorio Sella. He was the preeminent mountain photographer of his time; Ansel Adams cited him as an inspiration. In 1909 he accompanied Luigi Amedeo, the Duke of Abruzzi, on an expedition deep into the Karakoram mountain range (part of the greater Himalaya) to explore unmapped territory and attempt an ascent of the peak so remote it had no local name and has remained known only by the surveyor’s designation, K2.
