Beginning in 2007 I started thinking about making a film telling the story of the Duke of Abruzzi's 1909 expedition to K2. It was the photographs by Vittorio Sella that really had me. Taken on 30 by 40 centimeter glass plates, they have a level of detail unmatched even by modern photography.

As I dug into the history I became more interested in the motivations of these early explorers and in 2009 I traveled to Pakistan, interviewed their modern counterparts, and attempted to climb the mountain. This is the end result.

Opening at the Quad in NYC, August 22nd.
